Emergency Response Readiness Questionaire

To support government at all levels in their emergency preparedness capabilities, the Lake Michigan Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), in cooperation with its corporate members/firms, is developing a Disaster Preparedness and Response Report to demonstrate the Society's commitment to aid governments and citizens in time of national emergencies, including natural and human disasters.

Please review the Word document and enter your information in the appropriate checkboxes or answer with text where indicated. Please complete the questionnaire and return it no later than March 1.

April 17th, ANNUAL SMALL BUSINESS EXPO AND MATCHMAKING OPPORTUNITY

Upcoming project overviews by United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chicago District and United States Naval Facilities Engineering Command Midwest (NAVFAC Midwest) focusing on construction and related opportunities. All Small Businesses welcome and participation by Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses strongly encouraged. Format will include exhibit booths and appointments for one-on-one sessions with potential teaming partners and assist agency representatives.

February 14, 2008, Luncheon at Highland Park Country Club

PSA Drew Orsinger with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Protective Security Advisor (PSA) program discussed critical infrastructure protection, along with other job responsibilities. PSA Orsinger also discussed his responsibilities as well his involvement in the recent “Spill of National Significance Exercise (SONS)”.

An nformative and productive program presention about federal contracting prospects. The format will be exhibit booths and one-on-one matchmaking sessions with assist agencies and potential teaming partners.

13 September 2007- BBQ and Yellow Ribbon School & Sports Supplies Drive

Our annual end of summer BBQ at the Naval Station Great Lakes boat house.
School and Sports supplies were collected.

10 August 2007 Chicago River Cruise
This was a social and educational event which included speakers who described the newly renovated locks between the River and Lake Michigan.

9 August 2007: Association For Facilities Engineering (AFE)
We had a presentation by Mr. Fred King, who is a Director on the National Board of Directors, of the Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) and works for Inspec, Inc., a consulting firm, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

12 July 2007: Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Rehabilitation in Puerto Rico
Mr. Fred Fletcher, P.E., CSA Group, San Juan, PR.

10 May 2007: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
Our presentation at the May Luncheon will be by a team of LEED experts. Mr. Perzan will focus on how green building practices can be integrated into an overall risk control scheme, particularly at Brownfield Redevelopment sites.  Dr. Nassos will describe a high efficiency wind turbine for use in LEED projects, and Mr. Chad Edwards will present a case study of the Fort Bliss Dining Facility, highlighting the Military’s process of designing a LEED certifiable building.

12 April 2007: Building Information Modeling (BIM) 
BIM involves building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, quantities and properties of building components.  Our speakers were Mr. Loei Badreddine, P.E., S.E, and Paul Anderson of Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer & Associates Inc. (GASAI) of Milwaukee, WI.

2) A bus ride to a guided tour of Battle Stations 21. event

Our first regular meeting at our new venue, Highland Park Country Club.
We installed the 2007 Post Officers and heard about the state of the society from our Regional Vice President, Mr. Jim Hagan.

Our annual Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) joint meeting with presentations from USACE and NAVFAC (2MB) is scheduled for Thursday November 16th.   The meeting will be held over lunch at the Harrison Manor House.

Featuring a presentation by the Stanley Group on their work with the Corps of Engineers to rebuild the levies and floodwalls in New Orleans.
